As someone who dwells primarily on the electronic side of the scene, it was nice to experience a festival that draws a more mature crowd. Disc Jam has curated the sort of community where it feels like everyone’s left their ego at the door and genuinely enjoys each other’s company. The atmosphere was extremely laid back and security was nonexistent between the music and camping areas, so the booze was flowing and the vibes were on point all weekend. This event featured a tent stage, an elaborate woods stage, and side-by-side main stages, providing seamless transitions between bands, which brought back fond memories of All Good Music Festival and the original Camp Bisco. On the lineup this year was a pretty diverse collection of talent, featuring headliners such as Break Science Live Band, Turkuaz, Pink Talking Fish, Manic Focus, Brightside, and Yheti. Some other notable acts included Dopapod, who played with their former drummer Neil Evans after an extended hiatus from the band. However, Friday night was absolutely dominated by The Motet. The seven-piece powerhouse played a two-hour set that felt like ten minutes; certainly a highlight of the weekend.
Tauk was on absolute fire with their ever-evolving sound, and Esseks never fails to disappoint, as always. All in all, Tony Scavone and his team executed one unforgettable weekend. It seems each year, as it continues to grow, this festival just further cements itself as a solid pillar in the community. Disc Jam Music Festival was my perfect introduction to the jam scene, and one that I’d recommend anyone to experience. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for 2018!
